The pirates stole the ship’s cargo, crew personal belongings and cash
A Thai-flagged oil tanker that was missing for two days after being hijacked by pirates near Singapore has been released with its cargo missing, according to the International Maritime Bureau.
The tanker was hijacked, all crew members taken hostage and all communication equipment destroyed.
The pirates stole the ship’s cargo, crew personal belongings and cash, portable communication equipment and disembarked on October 15.
The Master managed to contact the owners and informed them of the incident. There were reported no injuries to crew and now the ship will return to Singapore
According to recent press release by the IMB piracy reporting centre, overall this year the attacks have fallen to 10, a trend which is attributed to the vital action of the naval vessels engaged in anti-piracy operations, compliance with the BMP and the use of professional security teams on board. However, IMB has called for vessels to remain alert and apply the Best Management Practices (BMP), including its reporting requirements, as it transits the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden
