A pilot lost his life after falling in the water while disembarking from the container ship ‘Singapore Express’ to a pilot boat, off Port of Lisbon Portugal, on Wednesday early morning.
According to international media reports, the pilot, identified as Miguel Conceição, was disembarking from the Hong Kong-flagged ‘Singapore Express’ in Cascais Bay, when he fell into the water, reportedly due to inclement weather and high waves in combination with pitch dark at the time.
The heavy weather and night time hampered immediate search and rescue efforts and his body was recovered by a rescue vessel from the port of Cascais, about one hour later.
‘Singapore Express’ was en route from Lisbon to Tanger-Med, Morocco, when the accident occurred. After the incident, she continued her voyage.
The Port of Lisbon Authority said the incident is under investigation to determine the exact causes.
