Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has published the key outcomes of its unannounced Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC) that specifically targeted fire doors, which took place from July 1 to July 28, 2024.
According to Paris MoU, the findings from this campaign raised significant concerns, revealing a non-compliance rate of 13.9%. Alarmingly, 30% of these non-compliance cases were attributed to a lack of implementation of the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
The FIC was relevant in the context of the discussions held during the 57th Committee meeting of the Paris MoU in Madrid last May. At that meeting, the Committee reviewed the outcomes of the Concentrated Inspection Campaign (CIC) on Fire Safety, which took place from September 1 to November 30, 2023.
While the overall compliance during the CIC was deemed satisfactory, two specific areas—fire door conditions (9.3% non-compliance) and fire drills (9.2% non-compliance)—were identified as needing attention. In the press release issued at the time, the Paris MoU indicated that it expected the industry to give these issues the necessary attention.
Following the announcement, the member Authorities of the Paris MoU held an unannounced Focused Inspection Campaign (FIC) on fire doors from 1 to 28 July 2024.
The findings from the FIC underscore the ongoing challenges related to fire safety compliance within the industry and highlight the urgent need for improvements.
In light of these results, the Paris MoU reaffirms the importance of adhering to safety regulations and calls on the industry to take appropriate measures to enhance compliance, particularly concerning fire doors and the implementation of the ISM Code.
