Preparing workforce for the expanded waterway
To prepare pilots and tugboat captains for the operation of the expanded waterway, the Panama Canal is building a new training center with 1:25 scale ships.
The new center will increase the training capacity at the Panama Canal, offering pilots and tug captains additional training from that one received at the Center for Simulation, Research and Maritime Development (SIDMAR).
In addition, the Panama Canal will charter a Post-Panamax ship for training in the new locks l before the commercial opening of the expanded Canal.
