The Office of Naval Intelligence has issued its Piracy Analysis and Warning Weekly Report for 19 – 25 January 2017. According to the report, pirate and maritime crime activity in East and West Africa waters is at a low level.
Specifically, there were no reported incidents this past week.

NIGERIA: On 23 January, gunmen kidnapped four individuals from a farm in the Epe area of Lagos state.
SAINT VINCENT AND THE GRENADINES: On 21 January, a sailing yacht anchored near Young Island was boarded.
MALAYSIA: On 19 January, three Indonesian crewmen were kidnapped from their boat operating near Taganak in Sabah.
HONDURAS: During the morning hours of 19 January, a France-flagged catamaran was boarded two different times during a three-hour period in an area approximately 35 nm east-southeast of the Hobbies Islands.
HONDURAS: During the evening hours of 19 January, a sailing yacht was boarded in an area approximately 20 nm from Gordo Bank.
ECUADOR: On 19 January, unknown numbers of robbers boarded a bulk carrier anchored in Guayaquil Outer Anchorage.
HONDURAS: On 13 January, a US-flagged sailing yacht transiting from Puerto Cortez to Roatan was boarded approximately 5 miles off the coast after anchoring in rough weather.
REUNION ISLAND: On 12 January, a Canada-flagged sailing yacht was boarded while berthed in Le Port.
INDONESIA: On 8 January, a sailing catamaran was boarded while anchored in Sorong Harbor

Red Sea, Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and Gulf of Aden Commercial vessels in the region of the Red Sea, Bab el Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden should operate under a heightened state of alert as increasing tensions in the region escalate the potential for direct or collateral damage to vessels transiting the region. These threats may come from a variety of different sources such as missiles, projectiles or waterborne improvised explosive devices. Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for an 01 October attack on a UAE vessel. Vessels in the region should report hostile activities immediately and contact coalition naval forces via VHF bridge to bridge radio.
