A new regulation mandates that all vessels and barge convoys navigating Argentina’s main waterways, including the River Plate and Paraná Rivers, must obtain an Oil Spill Response Organization (OSRO) Cover Certificate.
According to NorthStandard P&I Club, the ruling applies to vessels of any type and cargo, aiming to enhance environmental protections against potential oil spills. The OSRO Cover Certificate must be issued by a national company, duly qualified by the Argentine Coast Guard (Prefectura Naval Argentina) under Maritime Category A.1.
Although the regulation was announced by authorities, it will come into effect 30 days after its official publication. The exact date of this publication has not yet been confirmed.
