The Norwegian Sun cruise vessel sailed back to Port Canaveral, June 7, some days after the US Department announced the ban of US cruise ships from making stops in Cuba. It was diverted on June 4, an hour after it had left Key West.
As Trump’s national security adviser John Bolton, commented, ‘We will continue to take actions to restrict the Cuban regime’s access to U.S. dollars.‘
After the Government’s announcement, Norwegian Cruises reported that
After changing its voyage, the company offered a 50% refund to the passengers for their current trip and an additional 50% off their next cruise with the Cruise company.
The Cruise company also announced that sailings beyond September 2 will be automatically cancelled and refunds will be applied to the original form of payment. Guests impacted by these cancellations are offered a 20% discount off current cruise fares on any new voyages booked by August 5 for sailings no later than December 31, 2020.
Except Norwegian Cruises, Royal Caribbean Cruises announced that vessels sailing Wednesday and Thursday would no longer stop in Cuba and it would provide updates on future cruise destinations; Whereas Carnival Corporation commented that it will provide additional information in the near future.
Generally, the Trump Administration based its decision on banning cruises to Cuba due to the tension between the two countries.
