As North Sea Port announced that it will conduct a test in Terneuzen on Wednesday 26 June with an underwater robot from Asset.Insight. The robot is equipped with various sensors as ultrasonic, laser, PEC, sonar and a high-resolution camera.
The inspection measurements are accurate, whereas they are displayed legibly on a dashboard.
According to the statement, the use of underwater robot is much safer than having a diver do an inspection, while vessels can continue to sail. With this, North Sea Port focuses on innovative developments for managing the port infrastructure.
Moreover, it is important and useful to detect potential cracks in quays before they occur, keeping in mind that if such weak spots aren’t seen in time, they can result to financial and safety risks.
The chance to gain insight into the thickness of the quay walls, cracks and structural defects – without interrupting shipping traffic – is a valuable reason to try out this innovative quay inspection method.
