OCIMF announced it has signed an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) with the aim to formalize the long-standing relationship between these two organisations and establish the basis for a partnership that will focus on the safety and wellbeing of personnel engaged in offshore marine operations.
By working together, OCIMF and IOGP can increase the effectiveness of their work relating to health, safety, security, environment (HSSE) and sustainability for the global upstream and marine industry.
Through this partnership, we will closely engage at relevant committee meetings, support implementation of IOGP’s Life Saving Rules for the marine sector and develop joint industry best practices to support the safety and wellbeing of personnel engaged in offshore marine operations.
OCIMF said.
OCIMF Managing Director Karen Davis and Publications and Advocacy Director Saurabh Sachdeva visited the IOGP’s London office in August to meet their Executive Director, Iman Hill and HSE Director, Olav Skar, where they discussed opportunities to sign this MoU (see photo)
According to IOGP data, in 2008-2017, 376 people lost their lives in fatal incidents that might have been prevented by following one of IOGP’s Life-Saving Rules. Hence, with the revision of Report 459, IOGP launched a simplified set of Life-Saving Rules to provide workers in the industry with the actions they can take to protect themselves and their colleagues from fatalities.
