Anglo-Eastern, ship management provider, cooperated with Optimarin Ballast System (OBS) and Saga Shipholding, system technology company, in order to open a new ballast water treatment (BWT) training facility in Manila, Philippines.
The facility is expected to encourage crew to learn about BWM system operation and upgrade their skills in the industry, by obtaining awareness in new technologies. Optimarin has provided its ballast system, including a special pump house and piping to the facility. Saga, which has installed OBS systems throughout its entire fleet of 34 vessels, provides logistics and financial support for the project.
The companies highlighted that BWT is something relatively new in the maritime sector, so it needs better knowledge on technology, maintenance and operational issues by ship operators. In addition, the initiative aims to help the entire industry to familiarize and comply with BWM regulations.
