Avikus and DNV have officially announced their collaboration on the development and approval of autonomous vessel systems.
As informed, this collaboration marks a crucial milestone as Avikus advances through DNV’s System Qualification process for its autonomous navigation system, HiNAS Control. The system is undergoing thorough evaluation to meet DNV’s guidelines and international standards, with the aim of achieving the world’s first Type Approval for such technology by the end of the year.
The HiNAS Control system, which is a standard for all HD Hyundai new builds, integrates AI, sensor fusion, and AR to enhance navigation safety, efficiency, and reduce maritime accidents and emissions. This partnership is expected to advance the adoption of autonomous systems in the maritime industry, promoting safer and more efficient shipping operations.
Dohyeong Lim, CEO of Avikus, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the challenges and significance of this world-first initiative. He emphasized that this collaboration is pivotal for both DNV, a leader in setting maritime standards, and Avikus, a pioneer in autonomous navigation technology. Avikus is committed to supporting DNV’s efforts and working together to develop and approve this groundbreaking technology.
Furthermore, Jarle Coll Blomhoff, Head of Digital Ship Systems at DNV, praised Avikus for choosing DNV as their classification partner and expressed eagerness to continue their journey as the HiNAS Control system moves into the testing phase.
