Sailors’ Society, one of the largest seafarer support charities operating internationally, is unveiling its new Wellness at Sea app this afternoon at the Seafarers’ Welfare Parallel Sessions during CMA SHIPPING 2016 .
Wellness at Sea app, which will be available to download free of charge, is the next step in Sailors’ Society improving on board health and wellbeing at sea and puts seafarers’ wellness in their own hands.
With interactive challenges on each of the five elements of Wellness at Sea – Social, Emotional, Physical, Intellectual and Spiritual – users receive daily feedback enabling them to monitor their progress.
Sandra Welch, Sailors’ Society’s director of programme, said:
“Sailors’ Society’s Wellness at Sea coaching programme has been well received by the industry and we were keen to take it to the next level by putting the tools to enhance and monitor wellbeing in the hands of seafarers themselves. The Wellness at Sea app is a fun and interactive way for seafarers to improve wellness whilst providing practical information including local maritime welfare services and ship tracking data.”
The Wellness at Sea app seeks to combat issues such as fatigue, poor mental health and stress, which affect seafarers on a daily basis and can be the difference between safe transit and a major incident.
