On 30 August 2019, the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) received a report that two persons with life jackets were sighted in waters about 4.3 nautical miles from Horsburgh Lighthouse, within the Singapore Maritime Search and Rescue Region.
After that Singapore co-ordinated the search and rescue (SAR) operations. Namely, the Singapore Police Coast Guard and the Republic of Singapore Navy immediately deployed personnel and vessels.
The Republic of Singapore Air Force also deployed a Super Puma helicopter to the incident area to support search operations.
Moreover, MPA Singapore issued navigational broadcasts for vessels to look for the missing persons, while the Indonesian National Search and Rescue agency, BASARNAS, also deployed a surface craft to assist in search and rescue.
A day after the search and rescue operation, on 31 August 2019, MPA received an update from the Indonesian authorities that the two missing persons have been rescued by an Indonesian coaster vessel at the reported location yesterday.
Both survivors were given medical attention in Batam.
