MPA Singapore has issued shipping circular in order to inform the shipping community of the entering into force of the Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) (Amendment) Regulations 2016.
The Maritime Safety Committee (MSC) of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO) at its ninety-fourth session, had adopted amendments to SOLAS74, as amended, by resolution MSC.380(94).One of the key amendments relates to the requirement for the gross mass of a packed container to be verified by the shipper prior to loading on a ship to improve the accuracy of container weight declarations.
The amendments also includeeditorials to the title of regulation 10 of Chapter II-2 and the records of safety equipment for ship certificates.
The Merchant Shipping (Safety Convention) (Amendment) Regulations 2016,which give effect to the amendments will enter into force on 1 July 2016.
