The Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has set maritime safety in the Gulf of Guinea as one of the most important factors, in order for Nigeria to succeed in its blue economy.
NIMASA’s Director-General, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, said during a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the Implementation of the African Integrated Maritime Strategy (AIMS) 2050, that security officials are working hard to improve security in the Gulf of Guinea.
Capt. Sunny Umoren, the NIMASA chief, noted that in order for Nigeria to leverage the full potential of its Blue Economy, an improved maritime security in the Gulf of Guinea is vital. If this does not happen, it would be very difficult for any country to support Blue Economy.
