Power to Hydrogen and TripleW will test innovative projects in energy transition and circularity in the Port of Antwerp-Bruges.
NextGen Demo is part of a larger 88-hectare NextGen District established by Port of Antwerp-Bruges to be a hotspot for the circular economy. It’s a 2-hectare zone for start-ups, scale-ups, and pilot projects to test technologies and circular projects on a larger scale. Power to Hydrogen will install the world’s largest AEM electrolysis stack in the fourth quarter of 2024, aiming to reduce the cost of green hydrogen production. The project is financially supported by American Electric Power, EDP, E.ON, and ESB.
TripleW will start a project in the fourth quarter of 2024 to produce lactic acid from food waste for biodegradable plastics and biochemicals. Other companies joining NextGen District include Plug, Bolder Industries, PureCycle, Triple Helix, and Ekopak, focusing on green hydrogen, recycling, and circular water use.
Jacques Vandermeiren, CEO of Port of Antwerp-Bruges, and Annick De Ridder, Chair of the Board, expressed their confidence in the projects aligning with the port’s strategic vision for sustainability and the circular economy.
Meanwhile, Paul Matter, CEO of Power to Hydrogen, emphasized the importance of AEM electrolysis for green hydrogen production in the port.
Finally, Tal Shapira, CEO of TripleW, highlighted the project’s focus on addressing food waste and plastic pollution, praising NextGen Demo as a platform for innovative environmental solutions.
