According to reports, the LPG tanker Era Star collided with the cargo vessel Mizan causing significant damage to the Mizan and leading to water ingress and fears of capsizing.
The collision occurred around midnight on 1 November in the Pashur channel near Mongla Port, Bangladesh. The LPG tanker Era Star, loaded with LPG, struck the cargo carrier Mizan head-on per the reports.
Caught up in the collision of the LPG tanker and the cargo vessel, a fishing boat capsized with the sole person on board is still missing.
Reportedly the cargo carrier Mizan was loaded with coal and sustained significant damage, leading to water ingress. Eight crewmembers on Mizan abandoned the cargo carrier as they feared that the vessel would sink.
Furthermore, all the crewmembers aboard the cargo vessel Mizan jumped off and managed to swim ashore. No crewmembers aboard the Era Star were injured.
However, reports state that a fishing boat that was caught in the collision sank. The fisherman onboard the fishing boat is still missing.
Two patrol boats from the Bangladesh Coast Guard and a diving team are still searching the area, looking for the missing person.
