The two-year old LNG carrier ‘CESI Gladstone’ will reportedly resume it route to China within this week, after it suffered loss of propulsion while underway from Australia on 22 June.
According to international media reports, the ship had just loaded a cargo at the Australia Pacific LNG plant and was heading to China, when it sustained a main engine outage which resulted in a loss of propulsion, the China Energy Ship Management Co., Ltd. informed.
There were no injuries or pollution as a result from the incident. A towage was promptly arranged and the vessel safely arrived at port Rabaul OPL, Papua New Guinea, where repairs are being carried out, but it will soon resume its voyage.
CESI Gladstone, which was ordered by the joint venture of China COSCO Shipping and SINOPEC, was delivered at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding on 31 October 2016. It has been the first vessel to serve in the LNG transport project for SINOPEC and is sailing under a long-term charter contract to transport LNG from the Australia Pacific LNG Project.
