Dozens of helicopters, rescue vessels and more than 200 professional rescue workers have joined forces to take part in Iran’s annual search and rescue drill in the Caspian Sea, one of the largest of its kind in the northern region. Prior to the drill, the organizers said at a seminar for the same purpose that international and regional organizations are equally represented.
The seminar and the drill aim to discuss and meet the mounting needs of maritime emergency search and rescue operations in the Caspian Sea. Speaking to Press TV, the director of Iran’s Ports and Shipping Organization Marine Protection Unit said the volume of travelers and goods are on the rise, not to mention oil drilling operations. That’s why more efforts have to be made to ensure the safety of oil workers in the Caspian Sea.
