The Maritime Domain Awareness for Trade – Gulf of Guinea (MDAT-GoG) has reported that a merchant tanker was boarded by three armed individuals in 17 March near São Tomé and Príncipe.
According to the MDAT-GoG the incident took place 40 nautical miles southeast of Santo Antonio, where three unauthorized individuals have boarded a merchant tanker. There have been reports of shots fired, but no injuries have been reported. Authorities are actively investigating the situation.
The most recent update by the MDAT-GoG is that the Company Security Officer has confirmed that the unauthorized individuals remain onboard. Regional authorities have been notified, and the incident is still ongoing.
