IMO announced that it would like to draw to the attention of the international maritime community that warnings currently being issued from the email account of the Regional Maritime Information Sharing Centre (REMISC) in Sana’a, Yemen ([email protected]) are not legitimate.
As IMO said, due to the current situation in Yemen, the centre has not been able to provide updated piracy incident information, and has temporarily stopped its activities.
The REMISC, along with the Mombasa and Dar es Salaam Information Sharing Centres (ISC), forms part of the information sharing network established under the Djibouti Code of Conduct framework (article 8 of DCoC and article 11 of the Jeddah Amendments), which started operations in 2011.
This network is used to exchange information on piracy incidents across the are, as well as other relevant information to help shipping and signatory States to take action to address piracy threats.
IMO has supported the REMISC since its establishment and operationalization, but it highlighted that it has no responsibility or oversight with respect to its current operations.
