On 15 November 2016, the Norwegian RoRo shiping company Höegh Autoliners sold the Pure Car and Truck Carrier MV Morning Mercator, built in 1988, for recycling.
The company said that the vessel will be recycled at Jiang Men City Zhong Xin Shipbreaking & Steel Co. in China, under supervision by Grieg Green. This is the 16th PCTC that the company has sold for recycling, an action which is in line with its green recycling policy, Höegh Autoliners commented.
“This is the 16th car carrier we have sold for green recycling since 2009. We are pleased to use a recycling yard which have successfully recycled several of our vessels in recent years, and that Grieg Green will supply services to safeguard safe and environmentally friendly recycling,” says Steinar Løvdal, Chief Operating Officer Deep Sea.
The company sold its 15th car carrier Höegh Tropicana, built in 1980, for green recycling in China in December 2013. Again,Grieg Green was the buyer of the Höegh Tropicana who resold the vessel to the recycling yard in China.
Höegh Autoliners implemented a Ship Recycling Policy in 2009 for green recycling of car carriers reaching the commercial end of their lives. Grieg Green was selected based on good experience from three earlier recycled car carriers from Höegh Autoliners.
