Hibernia Management and Development Company, that operates the Hibernia offshore oil platform, pleaded not guilty to three charges related to a 2019 oil spill off the east coast of Newfoundland.
Now, a six-week trial is scheduled to begin on July 31.
Earlier, the Canada-Newfoundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board alleged the company caused the spill and failed to stop it without delay.
In addition, the regulator claimed the company did not complied with its management systems and failed to follow its own processes for managing risks for identified hazards.
It further added that 12,000 litres of oil spilled into the Atlantic on July 17, 2019.
The initial slick size was estimated by HMDC to be 900m x 20m, while it is also estimated to be approximately 4.6 kms at its widest part.
According to visual observations from the overflight of the area, the initial estimate of the amount of oil expressed on the water was to be in the order of 12,000 L.
