Placards designed by HELMEPA re bunkering procedures , oil water separators and sewage
Aiming to contribute to the efforts of the Associations members for more effective protection of the environment, HELMEPA has produced and made available to its member-vessels a special informative Placard presenting in a simple way the new requirements regarding the discharge of garbage into the sea.
On 1st January 2013, the revised Annex V of MARPOL entered into force, minimizing the permitted discharges of garbage generated during the normal operation and maintenance of the vessel into the sea.
One of the requirements of the Annex is to place appropriate Placards in areas of the vessel where garbage management usually takes place, so that crew and passengers are directly informed on discharge requirements when their ships sail within or outside Special Areas.
Relevant Placards have been designed by HELMEPA and made available to member vessels regarding bunkering procedures and the proper operation and maintenance of the oil-water separating equipment and the sewage treatment plant of ships.
