According to Hapag-Lloyd’s statement, the company sent ‘Nordviolet’ in Venice, to take over shipments on the line’s Adria Express, since ‘Sadt Dresden’ suffered main engine failure when docking. The latter, unloaded its boxes to Venice, for Nordviolet to transfer them.
Mainly, the 2,700 teu ‘Stadt Dresden’ experienced engine problems due to a collision that took place on Port of Piraeus in September 2018.

Concerning the collision, the Greek-flagged Ro-Ro cargo ship ‘Capetan Christos’ was sailing in the area coming from the island of Paros and heading to Elefsina, when she hit the Portuguese-flagged container ship “Stadt Dresden”, which was anchored. The winds were 7 Beaufort strong at that time.
Consequently, although there was no pollution reported in the area, there were reports for damage on both vessels.
As Hapag-Lloyd stated, ‘Stadt Dresden’ will not be able to continue her voyage to Damietta as she has to undergo repairs. At this stage it is unknown how long the repairs will take.
While working on practical solutions to ship the products, the company decided to deploy the MV ‘Nordviolet’ with ETA Venice February 21 and she will load all cargo for port of discharge Damietta and then sail straight to Damietta with ETA February 26.
Finally Hapag-Lloy reported that they are still evaluating potential solutions for Piraeus-bound cargo.
