Hambantota International Port (HIP) has integrated High Sulphur Fuel Oil (HSFO) into its range of bunkering services, offering a complete suite of marine fuels, including Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO) and Marine Gas Oil (MGO/MDO).
The HSFO facility has a 6,000 cubic meter storage capacity across two tanks and a pumping system that transfers 400 metric tons per hour. A pipeline connects the tanks to HIP’s oil jetties for efficient fuel delivery. The facility includes advanced monitoring and remote-control systems for safe operations. It serves ship owners using scrubbers and complies with IMO 2020 sulfur cap regulations.
HIP’s port, home to Sri Lanka’s first shore-based HSFO bunkering facility, discharged 5,000 metric tons of HSFO and 20,000 metric tons of VLSFO from the Grand Ace 10 from January 30 to February 1. This event marked the launch of HIP’s new HSFO bunkering infrastructure.
As informed, HIP collaborates with Sinopec for fuel delivery and is certified by Lloyd’s Register (LR) for operational excellence. It received its Fitness for Service (FSS) certification in 2022.
With our expanding range of services and growing reputation for operational excellence, HIP is positioning as a crucial player in the future of maritime trade and fuel supply. This expansion not only broadens the services we offer but also strengthens Sri Lanka’s position as a critical maritime player in the Indian Ocean region.
