After days of remaining off Californian coast, the cruise ship Grand Princess berthed at the Port of Oakland to disembark its passengers. A total of 21 people onboard the ship have been found positive to COVID-19.
There are more than 3,500 passengers and crew onboard the ship, which remained off San Francisco since late last week, waiting to receive permission by the US authorities to dock.
Several days ago, the cruise vessel’s passengers remained inside their cabins, waiting for the tests results on COVID-19.
The US authorities will now take all of the 3,500 passengers and crew off the ship to military bases in California, Texas and Georgia for a 14-day long quarantine.
California Governor has earlier informed that passengers in need of medical attention will disembark first, followed by the nearly 1,000 residents of California who are on the ship and then the remaining. They are all expected to disembark Monday.
Although there are 21 people infected by COVID-19 aboard the ship, officials only tested a total of 46 people on the ship.
On Sunday, the US State Department urged Americans against cruising amid the COVID-19 situation.
