On January 1st, the French Regional Operational Center for Surveillance and Rescue (CROSS) Gris-Nez informed that it detected an allegedly “erratic” movement from the bulk carrier Moezelborg southwest of Boulogne. As the center said, the bulker was approaching “dangerously close” to a sandbank in the Strait of Dover traffic separation scheme.
Seeing the route of the vessel, CROSS Gris-Nez went near the ship to reduce the risk of collision with other ships. After that it contacted the Moezelborg to check its ability to continue to a safe route.

What is more, the maritime operations center of the maritime prefecture of Cherbourg, along with CROSS, ordered the French Navy patrol vessel Cormoran to escort the Moezelborg. The patrol vessel was also tasked to send a visiting team to board the bulker and inspect it.
When the team got on board, they determined that the crew and captain could ensure the safe navigation of their vessel, and it continued its voyage to Finland.
