Busy time for UK MAIB inspectors
Accidents in the Channel Islands, Poole Harbour, London and the Isle of Wight have resulted in a particularly busy time for MAIB inspectors.
On 14 July the Bahamas-flagged ro-ro ferry Commodore Clipper grounded in the waters off Guernsey resulting in extensive hull damage.
On 16 July the French ro-ro ferry Barfleur made contact with and broke one of the chains of the chain ferry at the entrance to Poole Harbour.
On 17 July there was a collision in the River Thames in London between the passenger vessel Millennium Time and the tug Redoubt resulting in some minor injuries and damage to both vessels.
On 18 July a mezzanine car deck on the Wightlink ro-ro ferry St Helen sustained a failure resulting in the deck falling several feet and causing some minor injuries while the vesel was unloading in Fishbourne, Isle of Wight.
MAIB teams were sent to all four accident scenes and investigations are continuing.
