A fire broke out in the engine room
A Silja line ferry en route to Helsinki had to return to harbour after a fire broke out in the engine room shortly after the boat left Stockholm.
The fire triggered the ship’s alarm system at 8:08 Finnish time on Thursday evening. The ship’s crew had extinguished the fire by 18:20.
Nobody was injured in the fire, the cause of which has not yet been determined.
The ship, Silja Serenade, was the 18:00 departure for Helsinki. Tallink Silja, the shipping line that operates the ferry, says that the service is running behind schedule because of the fire.
