Fire broke out on the container ship X-Press Godavari in anchorage off Sandheads, India. After the fire, the vessel was escorted to the Kolkata port by an Indian Coast Guard vessel.
According to local media, the fire was first reported on September 29, woth the Indian Coast Guard deploying assets to the location.
Namely, initially three Coast Guard vessels reached the spot, performing firefighting operations, while a Dornier aircraft was assessing the situation.
During the day, a fourth Coast Guard vessel joined the action, successfully limiting the blaze, and bounddary cooling operations began to prevent re-ignition.
After the operation, the container ship was escorted to Kolkata port, by the Indian Coast Guard.
Earlier this month, the Indian Coast Guard had experienced another firefighting task, off Sri Lanka . During an effort that lasted nearly 10 days, Indian Coast Guard ships had tackled the fire, and also ensured that there was no oil leak and environmental damage, from the MT New Diamond.
