Following the COVID-19 pandemic, the Government of Finland informed that bans ferry passengers’ entry from 11 April until 13 May, in an effort to reduce the spread of the disease. Specifically, the border restrictions will be forced until further notice from the authorities.
The Government recommends that shipping companies operating to Finland from Sweden, Estonia and Germany stop the sale of passenger tickets for ships departing on or after 11 April 2020, with the exception of goods and freight transport. The recommendation will be in force until 13 May 2020.
…as the Government of Finland said.
In fact, through the travel ban, Finland goals to drop the transfer travel-to-work area along the borders with Sweden and Norway. In that case, only strictly necessary travel to work will be allowed, and employees must carry a certificate from their employer stating that the work is essential.
Although cargo trade and the transport of cargo drivers, crew, essential vessel maintenance staff and shipyard employees will continue on all ferry routes as normal.
In response to the coronavirus outbreak, Finland is closely monitoring the development of the disease and is prepared to place further restrictions on border traffic if necessary.
Apart from Finland, Nigeria, Australia, United Arab Emirates have already banned their entry amid COVID-19.
