The Federation of European Private Port Companies and Terminals (FEPORT) welcomed the report of the Transport and Tourism (TRAN) Committee of the European Parliament on the proposed revision of the Combined Transport Directive. FEPORT said that the proposed revision will improve the current text, and will advance terminal development.
Namely, the report outlines support measures which will mainly focus on enhancing terminal efficiency and capacity. These measures for new terminal developments will only be possible in areas which don’t have such a market.

In addition, the report aims to provide incentives to combined transport operations, by incentivizing road transport. As FEPORT’s Secretary General, Lamia Kerdjoudj-Belkaid said, this report clarifies to private port companies and terminals when and how State support will be possible.
Clarity on this issue is very important, according to FEPORT, as private actors need to to be informed about his in order to continue investing in developing Europe’s terminal infrastructure.
Ms. Kerdjoudj-Belkaid added that by incentivizing combined transport operations, the ports’ sector will become more attractive to private investment in terminal efficiency and capacity.
