For his contributions to the container liner shipping and logistics industry
Evergreen Group Chairman Chang Yung-fa was given a “Lifetime Accomplishment Award” this week at the 2011 Containerization International (CI) Awards for his contributions to the container liner shipping and logistics industry. Maurice Storey, honorary chairman of Evergreen Marine UK Ltd., accepted the award on behalf of Chang at a ceremony in London. Chang, who runs one of the world’s biggest shipping companies, founded Evergreen Marine in 1968 to offer shipping, transportation and related services. He now chairs a multinational corporation that owns more than 180 container ships and 60 passenger planes.
The award recognized Chang’s outstanding contributions to the industry over his career through a series of educational, innovative, proactive and pioneering achievements, according to CI magazine, a top London-based transportation publication. Chang, who is now in his 80s, said in a statement that the recognition by his peers in the industry was a great honor. It was the second time that Chang had been recognized by a media outlet based in the U.K. focusing on the marine shipping industry. In 2006, Chang received his first Lifetime Achievement Award from Lloyd’s List, a London-based international marine publication that provides information and analysis on the global shipping industry.
