After halting operations, due to an oil spill observation in the area of operations, Equinor commenced oil loadings from its Statfjord field in the North Sea, offshore Norway. In the meantime, Reuters reported that the loading are being conducted by a different buoy on the field.
Specifically, concerning the oil spill, Equinor announced on May 15 that it halted loading operations at Statfjord after oil was observed on the sea surface in connection with loading oil from buoy to a shuttle tanker.
The company is still investigating the source of the oil spill that was detected on the sea surface on May 15, prompting shutdown of loadings to a shuttle tanker.
The Statfjord field has been developed with the Statfjord A, B and C production platforms, which all have concrete gravity base structures incorporating storage cells. The Statfjord A started production in 1979, Statfjord B in 1982, and finally Statfjord C in 1985.
