An Egyptian wheat ship, the Wadi Almolouk, was allowed to sail from a Russian port after waiting three weeks for the correct paperwork amid a dispute a Russian grain trader and local regulators.
According to Bloomberg, the vessel was held in Novorossiysk but has now been tracked near Istanbul on its way to Egypt. The grain trader company has reported significant losses due to blocked exports, threatening the flow of Russian grain to major importers like North Africa and the Middle East.
Egypt’s Ministry of Agriculture facilitated the Wadi Almolouk’s departure after holding an urgent meeting with a Russian delegation in Rome. The ministry emphasized the importance of securing Egypt’s imports of strategic goods, particularly wheat.
Despite this development, two more Egyptian ships, the Edfu and Wadi Tiba, are still awaiting the necessary documents for their cargoes of grain loaded as confirmed by Russia.
Egypt’s Foreign Ministry had to intervene earlier to allow another stranded ship to sail, indicating ongoing issues with the required paperwork for grain exports from Russia, Bloomberg reports.
