Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) informed that it has completed the dredging works at Doha Port as part of its redevelopment project. Namely, up to 3.5mn cubic meters of material in the approach channel have been cleared and additional berthing has been provided to welcome more than one giant cruise ship.
MOTC aspires to advance Doha Port’s capacity to accommodate the largest cruise ships in the future, helping to position the capital city among world’s top cruise ship tourism destinations.

Doha Port now aims to contribute to boosting Qatar’s ranking as a favourite tourism destination in the area by receiving giant cruise ships and providing all that is necessary to boost such an industry.
Director of Technical Affairs in MOTC Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al-Thani, noted that Doha Port redevelopment will drive the improvement of the Qatar National Tourism Sector Strategy 2017-2023.
He also added that transforming Doha Port into a main hub for cruise ships in the region will lead to significant economic returns to various key industries in Qatar such as hotels, restaurants, retail and service sectors.
