The shipbuilding company, Hudong-Zhonghua was awarded with an Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate from DNV GL for its largest gas-fueled 25000TEU Ultra Large Container vessel (ULCS) design at the CSSC booth. The award ceremony was held at the Marintec China trade fair in Shanghai.
The AiP award will allow Hudong-Zhonghua’s new design of the largest containership in the world to be validated with safety equivalencies.
The certificate was presented by the CEO of DNV GL, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen to Chen Jun, President of Hudong-Zhonghua, while Chen Jianliang, Chairman of Hudong-Zhonghua, and Norbert Kray, Regional Manager of DNV GL – Maritime for Greater China were witnesses in the ceremony.
Hudong-Zhonghua has been a leading player in pushing the ship design envelop forward, especially for large vessels. In addition, the use of LNG is a sign of the continuing momentum for the fuel, as shipping transitions to a lower emission, lower carbon future.
…said Norbert Kray, Manager of DNV GL – Maritime.
Concluding, DNV GL along with Hudong-Zhonghua have a strong collaboration through the years, including the Hapag Lloyd vessel “Sajir”, the world’s first LNG conversion of a large container ship. This is not the first time that DNV GL has granted an AiP, in the past has also approved several projects such as the IHI floating power generation concept and LNG’s bunker vessel design.
