Doraleh Container Terminal Management Company from Djibouti, reached an agreement with Singapore’s Pacific International Lines (PIL) to increase by a third the amount of cargo handled at the port.
The agreement aims to improve the performance at the Doraleh Container Terminal, making it possible to handle an extra 300,000 20-foot TEU annually. The Doraleh terminal has a capacity of 1.6 million TEUs per year.
This agreement came shortly after, Djibouti ended its cooperation with Dubai’s DP World, for the Doraleh Container Terminal, after a dispute that started in 2012.
DP World considers this development an illegal seizure of the terminal and started arbitration proceedings before the London Court of International Arbitration, which in 2017 cleared DP World of all charges of misconduct regarding the concession of the terminal, Reuters reported.
