DNV GL organizes the 6th International Maritime Conference November 28-30, 2016 in Hamburg, Germany, which will include the 5th Workshop on Risk-Based Approaches in the Marine Industries at a single event.
This is the 6th conference of the design for safety series. In 1999, the 1st International Conference on Design for Safety was held in Glasgow, UK, as a WEGEMT Euro- Conference with the sponsorship of the European Commission. Responding to the expectations of the world maritime safety community, DfS conferences are held every three years, at changing venues in Asia, the US and Europe.
Objective
The concept of design for safety (DfS) has been advocated by the IMO and European countries and continues to gain momentum. A key issue is to address ship safety cost-effectively. Here, safety is not treated as a design constraint and a limiting factor of ship profitability, but as a design objective that aims to enhance the value of the designed ship in the competitive safety-conscious market.
Promoting the design-for-safety theme, the conference aims to bring together administrative organizations, classification societies, universities, research institutes, ship design offices, shipbuilding and shipping industries, the oil and gas industry and other sectors with knowledge-intensive, safety-critical products from all over the world to exchange the latest information and innovative ideas.
Scope
The conference welcomes papers on aspects of design for ship safety and topics in the areas of:
- Framework of design for safety such as safety culture, active and passive safety, lifecycle design, risk-based regulations, stability, fire safety
- Methodology/application of design for safety such as risk analysis, performance-based approach, formal safety assessment, risk-based design, first-principles approach
- Human factors such as man-machine interface, crew performance, training issues, autonomous systems, cyber systems
- Ship and system resilience such as bulk carrier/tanker safety and reliability, system reliability, limit-state design, risk management
- Life-saving approaches such as passenger ship evacuation, innovative approaches to emergency response and life-saving, decision support systems
- Big data for improved safety such as accident monitoring, AIS schemes, traffic management
