Danish shipping issued a press release on its website to confirm that Denmark has officially become the seventh country in the world to accede to the Hong Kong Convention.
IMO received on June 14th the document in which the country expressed its desire to accede to the HKC, Danish Shipping said.
“Denmark’s accession means that the Hong Kong Convention is one step closer to entering into force.”
So far, Norway, Congo, France, Belgium, Panama and Turkey have ratified this important Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships.
Earlier in May, it became known that the Danish Parliament supported the decision Denmark to ratify the convention. Now, it is official that Denmark has made a step forward to put pressure on other countries to follow suit and ratify the convention.
In order for the Convention to enter into force, it requires that it be acceded by at least 15 countries.
