The dredging of the waterway to handle Neo-Panamax vessels has been finished, as Mariel Container Terminal (TCM) announced earlier this week.
With the relocation of the buoys in accordance with the new channel parameters, the terminal can now accommodate boats that are up to 366 meters long, 52 meters wide, and 15 meters deep. The port of Mariel is situated in a safe deep-water bay 28 miles from Cuba’s capital city of Havana.
According to TCM the Terminal is located in the heart of the Mariel Special Development Zone (ZEDM), a project that encourages the long-term economic growth of Cuba by drawing in foreign capital. The ZEDM is connected to Havana and the major population centers of Cuba via a rail and road network.
The deepening of the access channel marks another milestone for the port and will add to the strengths of TCM.
