A Belgium-registered tourist cruiser ran aground on rocks near Phi Phi Island while it was on its journey from Lanta Island to Phuket, on Monday November 25, and was later towed to shore.
Specifically, the “La Belle Des Oceans” vessel ran onto the rocks near Phi Phi islands, begun listing. Then, the vessel’s crew conducted the Coast Guard, reporting the incident to the Royal Thai Navy’s Region 3 Operational Centre.
When arriving at the scene of the incident, the officers saw that the bilge of the cruise ship was damaged by the rocks and sea water was seeping into the vessel.
The passengers had 77, French passengers onboard, who were safely taken to shore, and there were no injuries reported.
Due to the fact that the vessel could not sail, the Navy contacted the Sriracha battle ship to tow the cruiser to shore.
After conducting the towing, both ships arrived at the Region 3 Operational Centre’s deepwater port in Phuket safely at around 10am.
