A 40-year-old Filipino crewmember died probably from malaria onboard a bulker. The seaman was sent to hospital in a serious condition, but despite resuscitation, he lost his life. According to information, another crewmember is at the hospital as well with similar symptoms.
The crewmember was hospitalized in serious condition on Sunday, May 20, were he was resuscitated, but unfortunately he died. An autopsy will be conducted to show the definite cause of the man’s death. However, local media report that the seaman died from malaria.

Another crew from the same ship is also at the hospital with malaria, the Provincial Sanitary and Epidemiological Station in Szczecin noted, but as of now his condition is good.
After the incident, Polish authorities will decide if the bulker “Ilektra” has to be quarantined, while anti-malarial vaccines will be given to anyone that contacted the crewmember.
