EST-Floattech’s containerized energy storage solution, equipped with Octopus Series batteries, has been selected by KOTUG International B.V. for their E-Pusher 1 (Type M), making it the world’s first fully electric pusher boat.
The E-Pusher 1 operates emission-free, transporting cocoa beans from the Port of Amsterdam to Zaandam for Cargill. Over a period of approximately six months, EST-Floattech collaborated with KOTUG, Padmos (the E-Pusher’s builder), Sea and Shore, and Gebhard Electro to develop and construct the customized containerized solution. This solution, certified by ESTRIN, provides reliable and emission-free power to the E-Pusher.
The containerized solution, with a capacity of 2MWh, allows the E-Pusher to complete approximately three round trips between Zaandam and Amsterdam. It is charged three times a week with green energy while at Cargill’s facilities in Zaandam.
The custom-designed battery solution inside the container was tailored to match the E-Pusher’s sailing profile. This emission-free operation reportedly reduces noise and smell pollution along the route and benefits the captain with a quieter, odor-free, and smoother sailing experience.
Ard-Jan Kooren, CEO & President of KOTUG, emphasizes the company’s commitment to innovation and sustainability, stating that the adoption of EST-Floattech’s battery system sets a new standard for emission-free maritime transportation, aligning with their goal of driving positive change in the industry.
