The Colombian Navy informed that it managed to prevent the transport of drugs which were found onboard a merchant ship, sailing in the Caribbean, in which unauthorized persons and drugs were detected.
Namely, Rotterdam Express, a German-flagged merchant ship, had left the port of Cartagena, heading to the Dominican Repunlic, when its crewmemembers conducted the established security protocols.
During that, they found unknown persons onboard the vessel, thus calling the San José Maritime Traffic and Surveillance Station of the General Maritime Directorate, reporting the incident.
The Colombian Navy and Coast Guard went to the scene, boarded the ship and detected 10 persons, who had managed to get on the vessel. The authorities checked the ship as well, and discovered 185 kilos of cocaine. After that the intruders were detained.
Rotterdam Express continued its journey after the incident, about which the local authorities launched an investigation to determine how the ten illegal passengers along with the drugs got onboard the ship.
