CMA CGM and Shanghai International Port Group (SIPG) signed a strategic collaboration to develop onshore power supply for containerships at the Port of Shanghai.
Starting December 15, all fully-fitted CMA CGM containerships calling at the port of Shanghai will be able to use the onshore power connection.
CMA CGM’s newbuilds are equipped with the technology required to use cold ironing. The company is also conducting an extensive retrofitting program so other containerships can also use an onshore power supply.
By the end of 2022, 13 CMA CGM vessels calling at the port of Shanghai will be connecting to the onshore power supply, and by mid-2023, this number will reach 50.
Commenting on the agreement, Ludovic Renou, CEO of CMA CGM China, said:
CMA CGM is steadfastly committed to installing more environmentally responsible solutions on board our vessels, the group supports cold ironing and we will continue to equip our fleet accordingly
Earlier in October, CMA CGM announced the launch of TEUs to Trees, an early container return incentive program designed to increase climate change mitigation in the US while assisting in the overall effort to improve both the fluidity and velocity of the supply chain.
This new incentive program is an opportunity to reward customers for doing their part to increase equipment availability while also helping them offset their environmental footprint.
The program will be in effect from October 1, 2022, to December 30, 2022.
