CMA CGM and DP World launch a joint initiative provided with a contract to expand their box facilities at the port of Le Havre in northern France, under the signed 34-year agreement, which enables the partners to operate at the port.
Specifically, Générale de Manutention Portuaire (GMP), a joint venture held 50/50 by DP World and Terminal Link, a subsidiary of the CMA CGM Group, will construct and operate the 1 million TEU container terminal for the port.
The new, to-be-constructed terminal will also consist of a 700 metre long quay and 42 hectares of land.
GMP is based in Le Havre and employs 1,200 people. Since 2006, the company has already been operating berths 2 and 5, located east of Port 2000, as well as the quays of Europe and the Americas on the North terminals.
Recently, CMA CGM was amongst a number of companies that announced their opposition on transmitting through the Northern Sea Route, in protection of the environment.
