SAFETY4SEA is pleased to present the first magazine exclusively devoted to the human factor and wellbeing, exploring best practices that can ensure a happy and healthy crew onboard.
Following the launch of our new service ‘SEAFiT’ in last October, the time has come for the first SEAFiT magazine with the aim to address the main dimensions of wellness at sea and suggest ways for crew members onboard to have a good work-life balance.
As part of SAFETY4SEA Plus subscription package, the SEAFiT paper magazine takes an in-depth look into key aspects of wellness on a quarterly basis. More than ever, nowadays, maritime industry has realized the importance of wellness for all people working onboard.
Focus has been shed on finding ways to address the five key aspects of wellness: Social, Emotional, Physical, Intellectual and Spiritual. If any one of these dimensions is neglected over time, it will adversely affect one’s health, well-being, and quality of life. Thus, it is important to everyone to be well in each dimension while taking action to build wellness-affirming habits, routines, and coping strategies.
Analyses have shown that happy and healthy seafarers are more likely to be productive and motivated, which can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of maritime operations. Given that human error is a major contributor to accidents and incidents in the marine sector, operators can lower the risk of mishaps, injuries, and fatalities while also enhancing their brand’s reputation by encouraging human aspects and welfare.
In that regard, this new dedicated edition, which its first issue released during 2023Q1, aims to redefine seafarers’ working environment, addressing ways to enhance their wellbeing and providing practical tips to better deal with daily challenges onboard.
The first edition focuses on simple practices for better sleep, from setting a sleep schedule to including physical activity in your daily routine. Also, it features several Infographics and useful columns and tools to take a proactive approach over each aforementioned dimension. Furthermore, it includes interviews with industry experts who cite their experience and present an overview of their lifestyle, aiming to motivate our readers with wellness tips and suggestions.
On the occasion, we would also like to remind that our SEAFiT Crew Survey (including Wellness & Well-being elements) is still running. After survey completion, an analysis of the results and key findings will be presented in a next edition of the SEAFiT magazine. In the meatime, you can still submit your feedback to give rise to welfare issues at https://seafit.safety4sea.com/
