Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met separately visiting Chinese State Councillor & Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday, January 14, with both sides pledging to further promote relations between the two Countries.
Specifically, Sri Lanka aspires to improve its relations with China to improve the former’s socio-economic state. Therefore, Gotabaya Rajapaksa commented that Sri Lank is ready to enhance Sri Lanka-China ties, strengthen bilateral win-win cooperation in various fields and actively promote the joint development of the Belt & Road Initiative to build regional shipping and logistics hubs.
The Sri Lankan Government is a firm supporter of the development of the Colombo Port City and the Hambantota Port, which will develop not only the country’s economy, but also the people’s livelihood but also become a major driving force for the friendly cooperation between the two countries.
Also, the Prime Minister commented that Sri Lanka welcomes Chinese investments and Chinese tourists, calling for closer coordination and cooperation between the two countries in international affairs.
On the other hand, China’s Wang commented the good relations between the two countries, with China continuing its support in favour of Sri Lanka in safeguarding its sovereignty and national dignity, while the relation between the two companies will be conducive to the peace and development of the region.

China is interested in further improving political mutual trust, strengthen high-level exchanges & deepen practical cooperation between the two countries, so as to push for further promotion of their strategic cooperative partnership.
The senior Chinese official called for discussion on jointly forging the China-Sri Lanka community with a shared future which features sharing opportunities and outcomes and enjoying common development and prosperity.
